Powering Up: Energizing Yourself and Others
with Dr. Mary Lippitt, award winning author and change management expert
Power is an essential part of our personal and organizational lives. Just like our personal use of power is expanding with solar, thermal or other new sources, we also need to re-examine power within organizations.
In today’s organizations, the concept of power is often treated as something to shun or ignore. One recent study found that less than a third (29%) of respondents thought their organizations teach their leaders how to effectively leverage their full power (Bal et al., 2008 for Center for Creative Leadership). Yet, power is at the very root of leadership and an organization’s culture. Only the effective use of power can create a high-performance organization.
In fact, power is the ability to act and influence and it is the essence of leadership. It is no surprise that we yearn to see power used wisely and, when it is, we celebrate it as empowerment, engagement, talent development and high trust.
This session provides you with a new look into:
(1) Seven power levers or sources
(2) Expanding power levers, and
(3) Cultural change using a power lens
ALSO: Participants will be offered a User Name and Password to complete a confidential assessment to gauge their current practices and to discover options for increasing their power. The power structure’s role in cultural change will also be explored.
